What's the difference between Web Hosting and WordPress hosting?
Our Web Hosting packages include One Click Install to install anything you choose from the list of available apps. Our WordPress Hosting is fully optimised for WordPress websites, having everything you need already set up to run a WordPress website efficiently. We also carry out ongoing WordPress (and plugin) updates, so you don’t have to.
Where is your hosting based?
Our Web Hosting, WordPress Hosting and Cloud Hosting packages run off servers based in London, UK which is a prime location and known as the most connected location in the UK and Europe. Your hosting will be provided from a strictly secure site, meaning you can be safe in the knowledge the servers are protected on every level.
Do I need to transfer my Domain Name to you?
You do not need to transfer your Domain Name to Intuition Hosting in order to use any of our hosting services. If you would prefer to, you can keep your Domain Name with your chosen Registrar and point the relevant DNS Records to us. If this is the route you would like to go down, just let us know and we can help each step of the way.
Do I need to transfer my Mailboxes to you?
Whilst it is advisable to have both your Web and Email Hosting with one provider which will put those services in one, easy-to-access place, you don’t have to transfer your Mailboxes to us to take advantage of any of our hosting packages. Although, if you want to move email to us, we will take care of the whole process for you.
What's the difference between Web Hosting and Cloud Hosting?
Our Web Hosting and WordPress Hosting packages are what’s known in the hosting industry as “shared hosting” which is one of the most popular types of web hosting because of how cost-effective it is. The “shared” element refers to servers being partitioned to provide hosting to multiple customers. If you need even more power, Cloud Hosting allows you to choose the specification of your very own VPS (Virtual Private Server).
What's an SSL Certificate?
An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) Certificate is the certification that the identity of the Public Key (which encrypts your data) is correct. You need an SSL Certificate when you’re dealing with customer data, or taking payments online for example. We recommend you use one even if you don’t deal with that information, because browsers might mark your site as unsafe without one and you could lose visitors. We provide them and manage them on all of our Web Hosting packages.
How many people are visiting my website?
There are multiple ways to monitor the number of visitors your website receives over any given time period. Some of the most popular are Google Analytics and StatCounter. Many of these third-party applications allow you to monitor geographical location and more, which is great to measure the effectiveness of any particular marketing campaign. These figures are essential for any business.
Can you back up my website?
Yes. At Intuition Hosting, not only do we provide the service of backing up your entire website for you (including site files, databases and more), we also include Daily Backups as part of all of our Web Hosting packages, giving you the peace of mind of a quick solution, should anything unexpected happen.
What is the difference between Managed and Unmanaged Hosting?
Unmanaged Web Hosting is very common. It’s just straight forward web hosting which keeps your website online. However, if anything happens to your website and you lose your data somehow, or if there any any website-related issues which bring your website offline, it is completely down to you to fix these issues. Managed Hosting, which is what we offer, means we will fix any potential issues like that for you, meaning you can focus on what you do best.
Why might I need to register more than one Domain Name?
Whilst it’s not strictly necessary to register more than one Domain Name, it could be advisable to do so to protect your brand’s name and image. For example, you could have yourdomain.com in addition to yourdomain.co.uk, so no one else can register these names. This is especially important with specialist TLDs (Top-Level Domains) like .store, .property, .academy and anything else specific to your business.
What are DNS Records?
DNS (Domain Name System) Records are Records for your Domain Name which are normally managed with whomever you registered your Domain Name with initially (unless you changed your Nameservers). The most commonly used DNS Records are A Records, which relate to Web Hosting and MX Records, which relate to Email Hosting. As we provide a managed service, we will handle any DNS changes for you.
What is a Subdomain?
A Subdomain is a Domain which is part of a registered Domain Name. For example, you could have yourdomain.co.uk and mail.yourdomain.co.uk on which to set up your email service. You can set up whatever you want though, like store.yourdomain.co.uk on which to host your online store.
What is a VPS and do I need one?
A VPS (Virtual Private Server) is your own virtual machine which you can use to host your website, email addresses, Apps and much more. We refer to this as Cloud Hosting because of the nature of the infrastructure. Normally, virtual machines are hosted on a group of physical machines. Because it’s virtual, it’s easily scalable, meaning your virtual server can “grow” with your business.
What exactly is a Web Server?
A very good question from those who are new to setting up their own website, or just coming off website builder software for example. Simply put, a Web Server is an application which serves web pages to visitors that browse your website (domain). The Web Server is absolutely essential in putting your website online for visitors to see. No Web Server, no viewable website.
